Can We Have the Real Suburban/Tahoe Back Now?

For those of you who don’t know, the Suburban is an XL Body-on-Frame SUV. It has three rows and a sideways facing seat in the rear on some generations. There’s just one problem with this car, the new ones are nothing like the originals. First off, it’s important to cover the history of the longest running nameplate for a car, ever.

History

The Suburban started in 1935 as the Carryall Suburban. Even though there is nearly 80 years of this car, there have only been eleven generations. Between 1960 and now, there have only been seven generations. The Suburban was only a tall station wagon at first, but it progressed into a true off-roader. With the Fifth Generation, the Suburban could finally be called a true off-roader. With the Sixth Generation in 1967, the Suburban gained the C10 badge, “C” meant Custom. For most of the generations, four-wheel drive and a V8 engine were commonplace.

Now, to the important part, what is wrong with the modern Suburban?

Well, if you look through the slideshow again, you might notice that a certain ruggedness is lost in the 2000s. It isn’t just age, the last two generations look like they could easily become minivans, they have lost the classic truck look that all previous models had. Look at the Jeep Wrangler for example, every generation has the same rugged look, they seem to be ready to go conquer trails from the factory, when you look at a 1980 Suburban, you can see that, if you think that you could take a 2007-Current Suburban on a trail, you’d be insane! I understand that they had to cater to the new market but they lost sight of what the Suburban is. The new Blazer is a great example of how a once aggressive and tough car can become nothing more than a soccer mom’s family hauler.

Make sure you go check out ACE Driving, a site with content similar to mine, but they write conclusions. They also have some cool videos.
